Kelcy Warren

Kelcy Warren is one of the most successful business people in the country, who is best known for his leadership at Energy Transfer Partners and Sunoco, Inc. Warren was born on June November 9, 1955, to Jack Warren and Virginia Warren and raised in Van Buren County Arkansas with four siblings. He attended school at Arkansas State University, earning a bachelor’s degree and then a master’s degree from Texas A&M University in 1984.

His Achievements

Kelcy Warren started his career with Sun Oil Co. and then joined Apache Corp. In 1987, he joined Richardson-Williams in the oil and gas industry. In 1994, he was hired by Kelcy Warren Resources to take the job of its CEO at the time. In 2000, he became the owner of Sunoco Logistics Partners after taking over from his cousin Carl Icahn who relinquished his role as CEO. Later, in 2003, he was named the Chairman at Energy Transfer Partners after a series of meetings with Tom Phillips, then-chairman of Energy Transfer, and also served as a board member for Phillips 66. The company was later merged into Energy Transfer Partners in 2008.

Warren has been the Chairman of Energy Transfer Partners since 2003. With the retirement of Jimmy Lee, he also took over as interim Co-Chief Executive Officer after making a deal with his partner John McReynolds. The two later became co-CEO and co-Chairman until Warren became sole CEO in 2009 after McReynolds departed from the company to become chairman of the board for Clean Harbors Inc.

In 2010 he acquired Sunoco, Inc from Sunoco LP, which then merged it with its subsidiary Sunoco Logistics Partners to form Energy Transfer Equity LP, which he serves as its non-executive Chairman and CEO.

With over 30 years working in the oil and gas industry, Kelcy Warren’s success is undoubtedly evident by his achievements and involvement in some of the most notable companies in the country. His leadership at Energy Transfer Partners has made it one of the largest energy infrastructure companies with over 80 billion dollars’ worth of assets, where he serves as Chairman and CEO.
