Alliance Defending Freedom in Religion

Alliance Defending Freedom

Alliance Defending Freedom is committed to protecting Christianity freedom. It is a non-profit legal organization dedicated to representing the rights of ordinary people. It is to defend freedom of religious and parental expression for everyone by working at the intersection of civil liberties and religious liberty, free speech, and government power.

Religious Freedom

Alliance Defending Freedom believes that it is the right of all people to explore their deepest questions, including those related to faith. It is believed marriage belongs to one man and one woman. It recognizes that some people have sincerely held religious beliefs about marriage that are not reflected in laws; they deserve protection under the law and respect for their views on marriage.

Freedom of Speech

Free speech is a fundamental right of all people. It ensures that students are free to express their views and ideas, even if they are controversial or unpopular. Alliance protects children who wish to exercise their First Amendment rights at school, even if those rights may lead to disciplinary action against them in the form of suspension or expulsion from school.

Alliance has been fighting for students’ rights across the nation since its founding in 1994 by then-law student Alan Eichler and his wife, Barbara Gordon Gordon, both dedicated defenders of freedom and liberty.

Sanctity of Human Life

Alliance Defending Freedom also protects the sanctity of human life through its various work with the International Human Rights Clinic at Harvard Law School. The ADF has been defending families when it defended an Amish family that was sued by a lawsuit brought by two female teachers who claimed they had been sexually harassed by their students’ parents’ refusal to allow them access to children under 13 years old. The case was resolved out-of-court without any admission or compromise, but it proved successful for both sides.

Supreme Court

Alliance Defending Freedom is well recognized and respected by the supreme court. The organization represents parties in court and has its own many cases before the highest court of the land, including NIFLA v Becerra (2018), Trinity Lutheran v Commer (2017), and Zubik v Burwell (2018).

International Work
