How to Acquaint Yourself with the American Academy of ISHCMC

The Academy is an independent, co-educational school with a student body of more than 600 children from over 70 countries. The school has a diverse curriculum and offers the International Baccalaureate (IB), Middle Years Programme (MYP), Primary Years Programme (PYP), and Diploma Programme (DP).

ISHCMC is located in District 2, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, barely three blocks from the heart of bustling District 1. The campus is situated on two city blocks just off Nguyen Hue Boulevard. A large multipurpose building houses the classrooms for grades one through six.

There are also two separate buildings: one for PreK through grade five; and another for grades six through twelve. This second building contains two libraries with over 20,000 volumes and science labs with biology and chemistry equipment. Other items are computer labs where students can work on their class projects using Apple computers, art rooms, music rooms, and a large gymnasium. Students play basketball, volleyball, badminton, and handball games during recess.

Each classroom has smart boards to facilitate learning in the digital age. There are also playgrounds outside each of these buildings where students congregate during recess or after-school hours to enjoy outdoor activities. The school’s unique emphasis on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) education gives students an edge in pursuing careers vital to Vietnam’s future development.

The Academy was established in 1993 by a group of Vietnamese parents who believed their children deserved the best possible education. In 2001, the school opened its doors to its first students: a small group of middle schoolers taught by a staff of American teachers and administrators.

ISHCMC American Academy has grown into a full-fledged secondary school with hundreds of students from all over Vietnam and more than 100 faculty members.
